Some words and phrases help to develop ideas and relate them to one another. These kinds of words and phrases are often called discourse markers. Note that most of these discourse markers are formal and used when speaking in a formal context or when presenting complicated information in writing.

These expressions focus attention on what follows in the sentence. This is done by announcing the subject in advance. As regards and as far as………is concerned usually indicate a change of subject

ASAL-USUL NAMA MALAYSIA

Sejarah asal usul nama Malaysia agak kabur jika dibandingkan dengan asal usul nama negara-negara jiran kita. Contohnya, 'Singapura' diberi nama oleh Sang Nila Utama yang bermaksud Pulau Singa (pura=pulau), 'Indonesia' oleh James Richardson Logan yang bermaksud Kepulauan India (Indo=India, Nesos=pulau), dan 'Brunei' sempena nama Sang Aji Berunei, Raja Brunei yang pertama.

Beberapa fakta yang dapat dikumpulkan berkenaan asal usul nama Malaysia :
1)
Malaysia asalnya merupakan gabungan 2 perkataan Inggeris iaitu Malay = bangsa asal / bahasa bagi penduduk yang mendidiami kawasan ini, dan Shire = perkampungan. Jadi, Malay Shire / Malaysia bermaksud kawasan perkampungan Melayu.

Menurut Dr. Thriunavukkarasu, perkataan Malaysia berasal daripada perkataan Tamil yang bermaksud "Mountains of Asia".
